Abstract

Abstract-Computer networks today become so large that hey exceed their architected limits and users on different LANs may need to talk each other. This trend has led to a growth in the practice of interconnecting preexisting networks or
subdividing
a
large network into an interconnected set of smaller ones. In this paper, two kinds of inteconnectd Ethrnets are presented: one using bridges and another using FDDI to interconnect Ethernets. Their performances are compared using simulation.
Although the
method using FDDI is usually better from the performance point of view, its cost is much higher than the method using bridges. As a result of simulation, when the number of interconnected Ethernets is small or the amount of inter-network traffics
is
small, the method using bridge operates well without degrading the performance.
